White Bean and Tuna Tacos

I’ve decided I’m officially getting old.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking.  But you’re young!  Look how young you are!  You’re nowhere near old!

Yeah, yeah.  But I do feel old.  Especially compared to kids these days.

And oh, the kids these days!

This last Thursday my neighbors had some friends over and even though it was only 9:00 pm, I had to stop myself from asking them to keep it down.  And it’s not like they were being crazy or anything.  It wasn’t a “let’s get drunk and hang off the deck and slide down the stairs on plastic lunch trays and all loudly sing the words to ‘Jessie’s Girl’ together” kind of party.   They were laughing and talking and having a good time.  Responsible adults.

And yet.

It was 9:00 pm and I was getting tired.  And I wanted to go to bed.  And thosedarn kids!

But I contained myself.  I kept my irritation to my apartment and talked it out with Olive.

She was on their side.    Traitor.

And then the other day I was at work when it occurred to me that kids who are old enough to drink (i.e. TWENTY ONE YEARS OLD) were born in 1991.  They are 90s babies.  Nineteen Nineties!

And then I had to explain who Marky Mark is.

I find myself watching more Lifetime, Hallmark, and History channel than catching the midnight showing of the hottest new movie. And let’s face it, by midnight I’m already several hours asleep.

I’d rather go to the wine bar with a few friends than out shutting down the clubs.

I have to Google slang.

So yeah, I feel old.  And maybe that’s what growing up is all about.  But hey, it snuck up on me.  It seems like only last year I was 18.

And now I’m….old and sooooo not cool anymore.

Cooked white beans (I used canned, drained and rinsed cannellini beans)
1/2 can tuna in water, drained
raw, fresh sweet corn
sliced cherry tomatoes
Pickled kohlrabi
minced rosemary
minced parsley
ground pepper, to taste
(If omitting the pickled kohlrabi – salt, to taste.)

On the warmed corn tortillas, add the white beans, tuna, sweet corn, sliced tomato, pickled kohlrabi, rosemary, parsley, and ground pepper.  Eat immediately.
